Christine Cody - 1996

The Robin Rice Gallery announces a solo exhibition of photography by Christine Cody. The opening reception will be held on September 12, 1996, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The show runs through November 3, 1996.

The works of Christine Cody speak with an eloquent ambiguity. She has the ability to blend fashion with dark fantasy, and a 1950s elegance. Her images communicate with a confrontational lyricism and swoop through gauzy layers of meaning.

Miss Cody is unafraid of demons, her own demons, and reveals their intricacy and beauty. She looks at her own phobias and failures with the eye of a lover. She is gifted with a rare capacity for storytelling, relating myths, secrets and humor.

This show includes work which has appeared in Communication Arts and Soma. Cody is presently represented by Pat Bates and Assoc., NYC, and works commercially with advertising agencies, Widen & Kennedy, and Sterling / Stepping Design. She considers Greg Gorman of Los Angeles as one of her early mentors. Her fine art has been exhibited in Portland, Los Angeles and a show that is presently touring Japan.

After a childhood in Los Angeles, Miss Cody schooled in Austria at the Kunst Academy, Salzburg, Austria, and The University of Sterling in Scotland. She received a BFA from Art Center, Pasadena California. This is her first solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery.
