Patricia Heal - 1997

The Robin Rice Gallery announces a solo exhibition of photography by Patricia Heal. The opening reception will be held on March 6, 1997, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The show runs through April 28, 1997.

In her new collection of photographs, British born photographer Heal creates an image where her figures resemble still lifes. They capture a moment of intrigue and tranquility emphasized by the use of unsaturated, subtle color and careful composition. The images have a silent and sensual presence. As a point of reference she draws inspiration from the great painters of the early modernist period.

In the invitational piece “Madelaine”, the model is posed in early 19th century attire against an Edwardian setting as in Degas’ Bathers. Through her work, Heal looks to formulate a concentrated sense of the immutable element that lies within the ephemeral and commonplace. In “Kim”, Heal brings a reserved quality by transforming the model with a faceless and proper pose.
