tmagazine: The British photographer @patriciaheal, born in Devon, England, and now based in New York, spent hours in her archives to select the works featured in her 10th solo show, “Three Decades of Photography: A Retrospective,” at @robinricegallery in Hudson, N.Y. Opening today, the exhibition showcases Heal’s range with images such as “Beach Samba” (1998), part of a posed series highlighting hats, alongside rustic photos like “Widdicombe Bond” (2009), for which Heal photographed a pair of ponies in Devon’s Dartmoor National Park and printed the image on distressed canvas. Heal created nearly abstract photos of plant life in collaboration with the prop stylist and set designer @martinrbourne, while a series of portraits like “Q XII” (2009) resemble 17th-century paintings. The photographer says she chooses her subjects intuitively: “I just always try to create what I need at the time.”
