Kim Reierson "Cuando el Pintor Sueña" (In the Dream of a Painter)

In this exhibition, Kim Reierson brings together her paintings and photographs; For Reierson, these two different mediums emerge from the same way of seeing. Reierson is drawn to creating works of art that feel dream-like and painterly, inspired by the works of painters Edgar Degas, George Seurat, and photographer Irving Penn.

Her interest in photography started at a young age. By using her empty swimming pool at home as a photo studio. Inspired by the way its white bottom and hard lighting would cast shadows and unique reflections.

Reierson’s Bolivian grandmother had a passion for collecting and grafting plant specimens to create her own color hues of flowers. Kim began searching for more intentional, tactile experiences rather than simply photographing them.  Influenced by her grandmother, Reierson has a new series of paintings from 2026 entitled “Flora and Fauna”.  In addition, since 2011, she’s been a member of the Lotusland garden in Montecito, CA. Reierson says, “Wandering the gardens, from lotuses to agave to Japanese bonsai, is a way to reconnect with the magic I felt with my grandmother.”
